10 Plot Twists That Hurt The Vampire Diaries (And 10 That Saved It)

A critic’s review of the pilot of The Vampire Diaries termed it a ‘shameless bit of pandering to the fang-banging throngs’. The show was just not likable! Well, curious to see just how things would turn out, three episodes later when Vicki Donovan was turned into a vampire, the show finally seemed to gain traction, becoming interesting.

The writers used several plot twists to keep the audience glued to their seats, with surprising revelations, blood-sucking vampires that caused us to sleep with the lights on, and a beautiful romance to balance out the violence. The drama-cum-romance show stayed alive for 8 seasons and when we thought we had met the most ruthless of all vampires, one who scared even the worst of them all appeared, keeping the supernaturals of Mystic Falls on their toes, leading to the formation of unusual alliances, just to deal with the new problem.

As a result,

‘Roswell, New Mexico’ Review: The CW Reboot Finds New Relevancy

There has been no shortage of reboots gracing the television landscape in recent years, with varying degrees of success. But in the case of Roswell, New Mexico, which is a reimagining of the WB/Upn drama that ran from 1999 to 2002, it's not really much of a reboot. The most basic tenets of the original series are there, but there are plenty of changes that make this one feel fresh, giving the superhero-heavy CW a new drama/mystery to add to its slate. That's especially good given that The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have both …

The Vampire Diaries: 20 Things Wrong With Elena Gilbert We All Choose To Ignore

The Vampire Diaries arrived at a time when the vampire fad was through the roof. If you were a teenager in the late-2000s, then you’ll remember how crazy every girl went at the mere mention of vampires. The cool vampires from the material such as Van Helsing was a thing of the past and the sparkly boy-toy versions from Twilight were the new norm. In 2009, The Vampire Diaries was commissioned to cater to this market and brought a similar protagonist to Twilight’s main character on the show.

Elena Gilbert was altogether a better character than the one from Twilight, and evolved into a more developed character as the series progressed and vampires weren’t associated with romance as much anymore. She was still supposed to be a girl-next-door figure when she was introduced and displayed naïve personality traits to the mysterious Stefan Salvatore. Elena’s love life

A CBS family comedy, Fam stars Dobrev, Tone Bell, Odessa Adlon, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. It centers on Clem (Dobrev), who overcame a rough start and is now living her best life with fiancé Nick (Bell) and his wonderful family. CBS' Fam: Grade the Premiere!

For a comedy series — with a studio audience, no less — there sure is a lot of drama going down on CBS’ Fam. The sitcom, which premiered Thursday, introduced us to Clem (The Vampire DiariesNina Dobrev) and Nick (Disjointed‘s Tone Bell), a newly engaged couple looking forward to their bright future together. A future full of secrets.

For starters, Nick had no idea just how much of a mess Clem’s teenage half-sister Shannon (Nashville‘s Odessa Adlon) really is, though he got a pretty good idea when she broke into their apartment to chill while her drug-dealer boyfriend

TV Review: Nina Dobrev in CBS’ ‘Fam’

  • Variety
Unconventional families are as standard a sitcom premise as any, so it feels fitting that “Fam” is as standard as they come. CBS’ new multi-camera comedy introduces newly engaged couple Clem (former “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev) and Jay (Tone Bell), and then almost as quickly, Clem’s surly half-sister Shannon (Odessa Adlon), who’s broken into their apartment after dropping out of high school. Clem and Shannon haven’t spoken in years, mostly because Clem and her estranged father (a surprise Gary Cole) haven’t spoken in years, but Clem sees too much of herself in Shannon to ignore her completely. She therefore invites her to live with them so Shannon can sort her life out — or at least that’s the hope.

“Fam” — so named because, as per this CBS version of a 16 year-old, “no one says ‘family’ anymore” — doesn’t push much harder to find new angles beyond its setup.

Goodbye Vampires, Hello Laughs: Nina Dobrev on Her New Sitcom Life With CBS's Fam

Goodbye Vampires, Hello Laughs: Nina Dobrev on Her New Sitcom Life With CBS's Fam
Nina Dobrev is in a whole different world with her new TV show. No, it's not because of a magic spell or something mystical, it's a whole new genre and frontier for The Vampire Diaries veteran: multi-camera sitcoms. She stars in Fam on CBS. "It's very different. They're so different. The live audience aspect is one big one, the fact that it's a straight comedy, the fact that it's a lot broader, you have to be bigger on sitcoms. You have to enunciate and project for the people in the audience," Dobrev explained. "It's kind of like doing a mini play every single week and you get a new script every week that you have to memorize, and they change the lines every day up until—and ever...

Raise a Glass for Nina Dobrev's Birthday While Scrolling Through Her Sweetest Bff Moments With Julianne Hough

Raise a Glass for Nina Dobrev's Birthday While Scrolling Through Her Sweetest Bff Moments With Julianne Hough
It seems like just yesterday we were watching the first episode of The Vampire Diaries and being wooed by Nina Dobrev's talent and now, 10 years later, the Bulgarian-Canadian actress is turning 30 and starting a new TV show. In 2009, Dobrev first became Elena Gilbert on The CW vampire series and before that she was Mia Jones on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Today, the actress is turning 30 years old and tomorrow she'll be stepping into a new TV character's shoes to celebrate. Ok, technically it's just a coincidence that her new CBS show, Fam, premieres the day after her birthday, but it seems pretty fitting that with a new age bracket comes a fresh show and start, right? Even though the...

The Originals: 20 Things Wrong With Klaus We All Choose To Ignore

Before fans saw Klaus Mikaelson in the flesh on The Vampire Diaries, his reputation preceded him. He was the Original vampire all other vampires feared. While he was just one of the Original siblings, his rage, his ruthlessness, and his complete and utter lack of mercy had turned him into the stuff of legends. Then he finally revealed himself and The Vampire Diaries universe was never the same again. In Klaus, viewers got a villain so complex and unpredictable that he quickly became a fan favorite, along with his older brother Elijah and his younger sister Rebekah. In The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, fans had the chance to spend even more time with this powerful but damaged character.

Even after a thousand years, Klaus was still tormented by his psychological scars. Although he could be a genius tactician whose ability to think through a problem and get the results he wanted was impressive,

‘Project Blue Book’: Robert Zemeckis UFO Drama Takes Flight On History
Oscar-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has long been fascinated by the fusion of historical fact with inventive fiction — I Wanna Hold Your Hand, 1941, Back to the Future and, of course, Forrest Gump are a few of his past projects that memorably embroidered fictional characters over historical events.

“That’s one of the things that really grabs me is starting with history and extrapolating events from that history,” Zemeckis said. “It makes things interesting to me when it’s all melted together. And that is why I fell in love with the pitch for Project: Blue Book from the very start.”

That pitch led Zemeckis to his executive producer role for the new UFO-themed drama Project: Blue Book, which premieres tonight on History with a story device that puts the shadowy series in the middle-ground that lies somewhere between In Search Of

Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 1 Review: The Fuller Dogfight

I want to believe.

And so did people across America when the UFO frenzy hit its peak in the late 1940s and 50s.

There was so much interest in the possibility of alien life that the U.S. Air Force went to great efforts to try to debunk much of what people claimed they saw in the night sky via three projects starting in 1947, with the most famous being Project Blue Book.

Astrophysicist Dr. J Allen Hynek got recruited by the Air Force for all three projects, but while he at first relished in his role as the scientific debunker, his beliefs began to change when some of the cases he was investigating truly couldn't be explained.

History Channel's new 10-episode series delves into these real-life UFO cases, and on Project Blue Book Season 1 Episode 1, we start to see the shift in Hynek's opinion on UFOs and alien life.
