Toddicus's Film Fuckery

by tmartins-00948 | created - 1 week ago | updated - 5 days ago | Public

My favorite films in order. I mean to be very pretentious with this list, and I vehemently care about your (wrong) contradictory opinions on my list. This list is to be taken as a factual interpretation of the best films ever made and if you do not agree with it then bluntly, you have no taste in film.

1. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

14 | 136 min | Crime, Drama, Sci-Fi

80 Metascore

In the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.

Director: Stanley Kubrick | Stars: Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Michael Bates, Warren Clarke

Votes: 672,517

Potentially the best Kubrick film ever made. The world the characters inhabit is fully embodied down to the very Shakespearean/Russian/English/poetic dialect the characters speak in. Aspects of the source material are not sacrificed, and the film keeps the majority of the controversial subject matter present in the book. Excellent character study of a violent demented character, with ample use of classical music. Muh fav atm.

2. Taxi Driver (1976)

16 | 114 min | Crime, Drama

94 Metascore

A mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action by attempting to liberate a presidential campaign worker and an underage prostitute.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Albert Brooks

Votes: 620,500 | Gross: $28.26M

Once again an amazing character study. Taxi Driver follows an extremely lonely ptsd stricken man, in his struggle to find any semblance of a meaningful romantic relationship and sense of purpose. Through extensive journal entries we learn of this characters pessimistic and narcissistic view of the world and the people that inhabit it, while he gradually descends into madness, becoming a ticking time bomb. No film has ever captured loneliness or the depths of a characters emotions better than this film.

3. Apocalypse Now (1979)

16 | 147 min | Drama, War

94 Metascore

During the Vietnam War, Captain Willard is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade Colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local tribe.

Director: Francis Ford Coppola | Stars: Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest

Votes: 535,485 | Gross: $83.47M

YET ANOTHER, character study. Our lead in this film is YET ANOTHER ptsd stricken man, tasked with assassinating a rouge colonel, via a long boat ride through a narrow ravine. Throughout the boat ride that encompasses the majority of the films run time, our lead character gradually becomes exceedingly more obsessed with his colonel target, as he listens to tapes and documents about the colonel he is given for his mission. Soldiers become more and more insane, out of touch and mindless, as the film progresses to the finale, culminating with the psychological anti political monologues of Marlon Brando as colonel Kurtz. The more one interprets the anti political, themes in this film and the descent of our characters into gradually losing touch with reality the more one appreciates this film.
